Overclockers UK Forums - powered by vBulletin

This is not an advertisement, although i should point out the forums are run by an online retailer.

The reason I am posting this, is that there is a wealth of un-biased information regarding components and systems in these forums, and anyone wishing to reaserch a particular item, or looking to find whats hot and whats not should look here for sound advice from a massive community of computer enthusiasts.

Had a major problem with a microsoft program called DXWEBSETUP, the updates they install on my computer have corrupted all my files and stopped me from signing into any of my emails or web programs, 20 hrs later ive managed to find a geeks website, who, after giving the error code told me how to correct it, so dont get directx on your compter if you dont need it...Gc

I dont know why you've put that problem on this thread, but DirectX is a major part of windows, and essential if your doing any graphical work or playing games.

I agree. Overclockers seem a good company (I've purchased from them in the past), and their forum is a great place if you're uncertain about what you need. Obviously the bias is going to be towards recommending items sold by the company, but you still have the choice of where you buy from.

I agree - bought all my parts for my lovely (stable) homebuilt PC there! (wouldn't buy a prebuilt ever again!!!).

The forum is great and I have found they do discuss parts that aren't sold on overclockers too so its pretty well rounded and can be ever so helpful!

i think overclockers are expensive on some items ( over others ) and some reviews are a bit fanboy ( biased to a particular favoured manufacturer )
but yes, they're ok if you take a wide range of views on hardware then amalgamate the results. Ebuyer is also a good place to get reviews.

Yeh, agreed, I was more refering to the forums for advice rather than the actual shop (which can be overpriced) and the reviews of the shop items.

Go to thier forums for the real advice.

I agree - Overclockers are a good company to do buisiness with and you can gleen some usefull info from the reviews of products posted (but as said before - a bit of a 'fanboy' format).

My personal recomendation of the best companies to buy PC kit from (in order of preference) are:

Scan Computers UK: Computer Hardware - All (first class service)
Overclockers UK (first class service)
RL Supplies Cheap Laptops, Computers & More (local to me so I can collect)

I've been building PC's for some 6 years now and found the three above companies have proved reliable and been able to supply exactly what I need at a price thats competitive.

I agree. During my recent troubleshooting, had to replace various parts and Scan were lightning fast. Not had dealings with Overclockers, but my son swears by them.
Be careful not to confuse them with Overclock though. I enquired about a bare bones rig and they took 3 days to answer as to how quickly they could supply. No phone number available either, which troubles me.
Not suprisingly, in the meantime I went elsewhere, got a great deal for a case/PSU/mobo/quad Athlon CPU/4G RAM from Novatech. Ordered it 3pm, got it 2pm next day.Only minor whinge was no case fan onboard.I put in a HDD, graphics card upgrade, DVDRW and a new fan - worked perfectly straight out of the box.
They have good support-phone/live chat and a busy, helpful forum too.
So far, so happy :-)
